no rhyme, nor reason – just sharing differently today.
I decided to share thoughts as they came in reference to the scripture listed that I heard at a breakfast meeting this morning…. from these few verses ( 3 to 9 of II Peter chapter 3) and adding Romans 1
“Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.” (Romans 1:21-32, KJV)
ignorance?.. it’s not excusable!
The Bible is everywhere—on our phones, in our homes, online, in sermons, in videos, podcasts, and books. It circulates across social media and even rings through the voices of rock musicians or country singers when they perform “Amazing Grace” or “How Great Thou Art.” Yet so many sing it without being saved, proclaiming truth they do not believe. To sing of Christ without knowing Him, or to use His name for money, fame, or mockery, is indeed a special kind of stupid.
There seems to be no end to the access we have to Scripture, yet friends, neighbors, church members, and many ministers often choose to fill their minds with everything else from GTA, or Red Dead Redemption, and other such idiocy and sin. People can recite the roster of their favorite sports team or name every item on a coffee shop menu, yet cannot explain the truth of the Cross, the Atonement, or Christ’s return. That is a spiritual tragedy.
God has made His Word plain and available to all. The only real question is whether we are willing to know it.If we understand what Christ purchased at Calvary, we will understand why God waits and why judgment will surely come. Right now, we live in that narrow, precious window between “It is finished” and “Behold, He comes.”
Scripture warns us of such a time: “Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:3–9, KJV)
Asking about the promise of Christ’s coming refers to the Second Coming, not the Rapture, and most all endtime events as predicted in the Bible are met with scoffing, in fact most end time prophecies are met with scoffing and disbelief.
Sadly, I know some friends for personally for over 19 years who respond to God’s prophetic Word with “blah blah blah,” showing no desire to hear or understand dispensations, prophecies, eschatology etc. all while claiming Grace and salvation. But regardless of what anyone thinks, the Word of God stands true.
The two central themes of Scripture remain the same: the Atonement and the End Times.
If we grasp the meaning of Christ’s atonement, we will more clearly understand the coming judgment. The ignorance Peter described is not mere lack of knowledge, it is willful ignorance. The evidence of God’s truth has been presented, yet it is deliberately rejected.
We then see at the 6th verse, it speaks of the pre-Adamite Creation, and is not or doesn’t refer to Noah’s Flood, but rather the Flood of Genesis 1:2; this is when Lucifer led his revolution against God, following which speaks currently, the present Heavens and Earth were restored to a second perfect state in the days of Adam [Genesis 1:3; 2:25; Exodus 20:11], proving that all Creation is dependent solely on the Will of God.
Then referencing the coming “Great White Throne Judgment” [Revelation 20:11–15], the Heavens and Earth will be renovated by fire.
Considering all this, it is beyond excuse for believers today to remain ignorant. With Scripture available in every form printed, digital, audio, and visual, there is no justification for spiritual laziness or indifference. If someone can memorize the full lineup of the Maple Leafs, the Saints’ offensive roster, or every donut at Tim Hortons, they certainly ought to know the truths of the Word of God.
Let us always remember:
A human promise may be weakened or destroyed by time. However, a Divine Promise is as certain of fulfillment in a thousand years as in one day.
Every extra day is an opportunity for someone, maybe a friend of many years to move from “blah, blah, blah” to “God, be merciful to me ”
