“And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the money-changers, and the seats of them that sold doves. And said to them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer, but ye have made it a den of thieves.” (Matthew 21:12-13, Webster)

This was in the Court of the Gentiles; it was a different incident than that narrated in John 2:13-15; the first commenced the beginning of His Ministry, this last one, its close. Isaiah 56:7 shows us the fact of the House of Prayer as mentioned in verse 13, as Scripture bares Scripture again.
In either Scripture reference it was not the selling of the animals to which Jesus objected, but where they were being sold; the same would go for the money changers. What He did in both narratives was Scriptural, as seen in Psalm 69:9. Our Lord quoted this Passage in St. John 2:17. All the rebellion of the evil hearts of men against God was, and is directed at the Lord Jesus Christ.
In 2026, Churches and congregations across Canada and America are guilty of the same sin, even more so because these are producing radio, TV and social media that goes world wide and millions of souls are in hell due to such actions, and productions.
In Jeremiah 7:11, “A den of robbers,” is that which the Lord calls the people of Jerusalem. They were treating “His House” as a group of thieves would treat a gathering place where they congregated in order to drink, carouse, and even plan robberies. As said, 90‰ of modern day 2026 churches who have congregations through social media, and other platforms are fleecing the flock spiritually, financially, and mentally,by prioritizing profit, personality, and entertainment over spiritual integrity.
When worship spaces physical or digital become more about merchandising faith than nurturing souls, the parallel with the temple market place becomes uncomfortably true. The fruit they produce, are they using resources to genuinely serve others and share the gospel, Or do they exploit followers under the guise of spirituality?

The Church, in every age, is called to be a house of prayer, not a den of thieves. Jesus’ cleansing act challenges believers to examine not just institutions but also their own motives in worship and ministry.

Imagine Jesus walking unannounced into a Sunday service, or into a live stream or social media ministry. He would hear the songs, see the production, and read the scrolling comments. But He would also see what no camera can capture: motives, idols, and the true place prayer and holiness holds among His people. The same Lord who once overturned tables in the Court of the Gentiles still burns with Holy zeal for His Father’s house.
In Jeremiah’s day, people treated God’s temple like a safe hideout for hearts that had no intention of obeying Him. They did the “religious” things, then went back to their sin as if the building itself guaranteed safety.
How similar this is to much of today’s Christianity, where Christ’s name is used to build platforms, sell products, or manipulate emotions, while repentance, holiness, and reverent prayer are quietly pushed to the margins. The sin is not technology, media, or even money,it is using Holy things to serve unholy ends.
True people whose first instinct is to seek His face, not their own gain are what’s called for today and forward until His return.
Revival will not begin in your wireless microphones or video cameras, but on your knees.
