Here, the Apostle Paul instructs Titus to continually affirm the Truth of the Gospel. Let the reader fully understand that when Paul says, “This is a faithful saying,” he is declaring that what follows is completely steadfast, unchanging, and worthy of continuing proclamation.
The message of redemption through Jesus Christ is never and must never become secondary in preaching or teaching. The believer’s faith rests entirely upon what Christ accomplished through His sacrificial work. Because of that finished work, we are to be careful to maintain good works, while also fully understanding that works are not the means of salvation but they are the evidence of a life transformed by grace. The greatest good that can come from a believer’s life is pointing others to Christ. Acting like Christ and being as Christ would in every situation; this is “good and profitable unto men” because it will bring others into the knowledge of the truth.
Paul then gives a warning, and it still fits in 2026 and beyond!
Believers must avoid foolish, stupid arguments and endless redundancy or meaningless repetition about matters that do not produce spiritual growth. Pre, mid, post,,,, the rapture will happen,,, stop arguing… quit cycling through the same points, insults, or circular logic without reaching a conclusion or adding value, and puts people in a stagnant loop that wastes energy and prevents progress. Who cares what Jesus looked like, who cares about the length of His hair or if he had a beard etc, ad infinitum!
TRUTH: He hanged on the cross naked, His nail scars are in the wrist, not the hand, the crown of thorns were 2 inches up to 6 inches long,…
No! the shroud of Turin isn’t real, and No! that’s not the face of Christ!,,,, seriously, people even believe in “new and improved miracle spring water “, I have to laugh!
In Paul’s day many debates revolved around genealogies, legalistic interpretations of the Law, and speculative teachings. Such discussions only produced division and confusion. They were unprofitable because they distracted from the truth and simplicity of the Gospel.
Paul then addresses false teaching. If a false teacher or minister is warned once and then warned again but refuses correction, believers are instructed to reject their influence. This does not mean hatred or cruelty, but rather a firm refusal to participate in or support teaching that departs from the truth of God’s Word. You cannot support or say Amen to these charlatans and serve Christ properly. Easily seen is how such a person, or ministries have become spiritually distorted and they literally stand self condemned by their own actions. Persistent rejection and twisting of the truth reveals a heart that has turned away from God’s instruction.
The Gospel of Christ must remain the center of your message, your faith should produce visible good works, and you must guard yourself against teachings that lead away from the truth: Then your life becomes profitable and in turn can a blessing to others.
